The Diabetes Trials Unit (DTU), founded in 1985, specialises in performing local, national and multinational clinical trials and other studies to delay and treat diabetes and its complications, as well as other endocrine, cardiometabolic and related disorders.

About DTU

We have a full registration with the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC).

Our trials range from proof-of-concept and proof-of-efficacy translational studies (phase IIA/B), to phase III/IV randomised clinical outcome studies of therapeutic interventions or medical devices that can change clinical practice.  We undertake projects addressing the use of data in regulatory and payer decisions.    Working with our  collaborators, we design, conduct and analyse clinical studies that meet the expectations of regulators, payers, clinicians and people with diabetes.   We undertake epidemiological, health economic, and disease modelling, with an emphasis on diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

We work with the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM), with Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) groups, and the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) local research networks.  We work closely with colleagues within the University of Oxford in the Radcliffe Department of Medicine and the Health Economics Research Centre.
