We are delighted to announce that Dr Michael Theodorakis joined the Diabetes Trials Unit (DTU) as a Senior Clinical Researcher on 1st July.
Michael has relocated from Athens, Greece, where he was a member of the medical faculty at the University of Athens Medical School, and also a clinician at the Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes Unit, University of Athens.
Until now, his research interests had focused on molecular mechanisms underlying the effects of incretins and related molecules on insulin secretion and action. His studies led to the discovery of novel sensing mechanisms of human enteroendocrine cells, helping to explain the physiological origin of the 'incretin effect'.
Within the DTU, Michael will be the Clinical Lead for the Acarbose Cardiovascular Evaluation (ACE) trial, work on early phase studies with the Translational Research Group (TRG) and help run the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust specialist diabetes outpatient service.
We wish him every success in his new role.
